PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a splicing method with which the splicing work is simplified without damaging optical fibers, the amount of bending of the optical fibers during splicing is controlled and the space on an optical module substrate is effectively used. SOLUTION: The optical splicing method obtains the contacting force of the end faces of the optical fibers from the stress being generated by the bending of the optical fibers. The method has an optical fiber fixing step in which an optical fiber is inserted into a plug and fixed, a bending step in which the optical fiber is bent, a positioning step in which two optical fibers are positioned and the relative position between the plugs is fixed and a butting step in which bending of the optical fiber is released to butt the optical fibers together.
