PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a retainer installation device and a data memory device capable of efficiently assembling them. SOLUTION: This retainer installation device is a C type ring installation device 110 of an assembly device 100 of a hard disc drive, and it fits a C type ring 30 in a pivot 132 in the state where the C type ring 130 opens and closes the C type ring against the pivot 132. This C type ring installation device 110 moves a catch arm to hold the C type ring 130 so that the C type ring 130 moves in a direction where an opening end part of the C type ring 130 is separated from the pivot 132 while the C type ring 130 closes against the pivot 132.
