PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a still picture extracting apparatus capable of extracting a desired still picture from a motion picture to be reproduced. SOLUTION: A still picture extracting apparatus which reproduces a motion picture composed of a plurality of time-sequential still pictures and extracts a desired still picture from the plurality of still pictures, comprises a juxtaposed image creating section 27 for creating juxtaposed images by reducing and juxtaposing a plurality of still pictures at the moment when a designate button 5d is pressed, and before and after the moment when the designate button 5d is pressed while reproducing the motion picture, a means for accepting the selection of the still picture desired to extract from the displayed juxtaposed images, and an extraction means for extracting the accepted still picture as a still picture file.
