PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem associated with suitable rubbing treatment which is not attained, when an antistatic earth wire is to be grounded, because in this case the earth wire is required to be exposed, and consequently the rubbing cloth rubs the earth wire, the rubbing cloth is worn out and deteriorated, and aligning treatment using the deteriorated portion of the rubbing cloth brings about no suitable rubbing treatment. SOLUTION: In the rubbing method for conducting the alignment treatment of a liquid crystal, defective alignment due to deterioration of rubbing cloth is alleviated, by setting the distance between the earth wire provided for an antistatic purpose and the alignment layer to be equal to or larger than a designed value multiplied by a contact width of the rubbing roll.
