PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold cylinder capable of making thin base paper having good formation in a process for making the paper in a cylinder paper machine. SOLUTION: The mold cylinder in the cylinder paper machine is characterized in that a wire constituting the mold cylinder comprises three layers whose central wire mesh is smaller than the inside wire mesh and whose outside wire mesh is smaller than the central wire mesh. It is preferable that the wires constituting the mold cylinder comprise the 8 to 20 mesh inside wire, the 14 to 20 mesh central wire (provided that the central wire mesh is smaller than the inside wire mesh), and the 70 to 90 mesh outside wire.
