A reaction product is obtained by reacting a reaction product of phenylenediamine with silica or silicate, and silica groups on a substrate. An independent claim is included for method of protecting colorants printed on print media against ozonolysis, which involves reacting the reaction product of phenylenediamine and silica or silicate, with silica groups on the print media in the presence of a water-free solvent.
