PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding method of a metal strip which copes with the variation of various materials present in the width direction of the metal strip, and grinds the metal strip so as to have a uniform thickness in the width direction. SOLUTION: A grinding stand is equipped with a grinding belt, a billy roll for pushing up the rear side of the metal strip, and a contact roll for pressing the grinding belt on the metal strip surface. The combination of the billy roll and the contact roll is any of a drum shape and the drum shape or a cylindrical shape, a hourglass shape and the hourglass shape or the cylindrical shape, and the cylindrical shape and the cylindrical shape. a grinding stand of the above combination is selected and used.
