PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for encoding a digital signal, and a method and a device for decoding the digital signal that encode a digital signal to a bit stream including a plurality of lookup tables, and information on a linear quantization by interval and a frame length, and decode the bit stream. SOLUTION: The method for encoding a digital signal comprises: (a) a step that converts digital input signals and removes redundant information among the signals; (b) a step that selects a lookup table according to the property of the input signals in the state that a plurality of lookup tables which differentiate the number of bits allotted to each predetermined quantization unit according to the property of the input signals are provided, and obtains the number of bits allotted to the quantization unit in the lookup table; (c) a step that divides distribution of the signal values into predetermined intervals with regard to the predetermined quantization unit, and quantizes linearly the data converted in the step (a) by the number of bits allotted in the step (b) for each interval; and (d) a step that generates the bit stream with the linearly quantized data and predetermined additional information.
