PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio terminal capable of selecting the optimum transmission medium in accordance with the quality of a transmission signal, being applied to a plurality of broadcasting and communication systems and improving convenience, and to provide a transmission media switching method. SOLUTION: A received signal quality determining part 31 calculates a new received signal level on the basis of an inputted received signal level and a stored conversion value and outputs quality information being the new received signal level. A transmission medium selecting/control part 32 selects a transmission medium on the basis of inputted quality information, stored selection algorithm and reference information such as priority. In addition, the transmission medium selecting/control part 32 specifies modulation and demodulation software and downloads the modulation and demodulation software from a modulation and demodulation software storing part 33 to software radio modulating and demodulating parts 10 and 20.
