PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing chopped strand that does not impair mechanical strength, water resistance, etc., of molding and does not cause deterioration, variation, etc., of color tone and to obtain a molding material of a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: A glass fiber bundle composed of glass filaments spun from a bushing is subjected to surface treatment with a sizing agent that comprises an unsaturated copolymer of an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and a monomer containing two or more unsaturated bonds in the molecule, a saturated copolymer of an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and a monomer containing one unsaturated bond in the molecule, a silane-based coupling agent and a polyurethane resin, in the ratio calculated as solid contents of 15-100 parts by mass of the saturated copolymer and 5-100 parts by mass of the silane-based coupling agent based on 100 parts by mass of the solid content of the unsaturated copolymer and in the ratio calculated as mass ratio of solid content of 10-90 parts by mass of the polyurethane resin based on 100 parts by mass of the total of the unsaturated copolymer and the saturated copolymer and then cut.
