PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire improving belt edge separation resisting performance especially to a high load without lowering in productivity or increase in weight. SOLUTION: An edge cover layer 4, and a reinforcing layer 5 made from an organic fiber cord or a steel cord tilting in the same direction as a tire circumferential direction with an innermost peripheral belt layer 3 are provided between the innermost belt layer 3 and a carcass layer 6 so as to be laid over edge portions of the belt layers 2, 3 in a tire width direction. Projecting width to the edge portion outside of the innermost belt layer 3 of the reinforcing layer 5 is made to be 5 to 15 mm, and inserting width to the edge portion inside of an outermost peripheral belt layer 2 is made to be not less than 5 mm. Compressing/shearing stress concentrated in the edge portions of the belt layers 2, 3 is dispersed and eased by a high load, and the edge cover layer 4 suppresses upward movement of the edge portions of the belt layers 2, 3 at the time of high speed traveling.
