INDUCING MALE STERILITY AT PLANTS, BY AVIDIN HIGH LEVEL EXPRESSION

The invention relates to inducing male sterility, at plants, by avidin high level expression. Male sterile plants may be produced by increasing avidin endogene concentration in the plant tissues. This effect may be reached by producing transgenic plants containing an expression vector, where a promotor is operationally bound to a DNA sequence encoding the avidin. There are also revealed methods for restoring male fertility.
