PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element in which emission of light of a sufficient brightness, particularly the emission of light of long wave length is obtained continuingly for a long period of time. SOLUTION: There is provided the organic EL element in which a compound expressed by a following general formula (I) is made contained in the organic compound layers, particularly in the light-emitting layers. The general formula (I) is (Ar) m-L, here in the formula, Ar is an aromatic residue, m is an integer of 2 to 6, and each Ar may be the same or may be a different substance. L is an m-valent residue of condensed polycyclic aromatic compounds of 3 to 10 of ring numbers. However, when L is bi-valent or tri-valent residue derived from anthracene, at least one of Ar is an aromatic compound residue derived from alkynyl arene. Furthermore, when L is tetra-valent residue derived from naphthacene, and each Ar is coupled respectively with the fifth, sixth, eleventh and twelfth places, four pieces of Ar do not become phenyl group simultaneously.
