PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium management system capable of checking inconsistency between the contents of data stored on a recording medium and the contents of external label information described or recorded on an external label stuck on the recording medium, and a method therefor. SOLUTION: Part of data stored on the recording medium such as an MT is included as matching data of an external label side is included in a description of the external label 80, an external label information input processing means 24A inputs the external label information, and a matching data extraction processing means 24D extracts matching data of a recording medium side used for a matching check from the data stored on the recording medium. Then a matching data comparison processing means 24E compares the extracted matching data of the recording medium side with the matching data of the external label side included in the inputted external label information.
