<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a development apparatus where developer is surely stirred, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Four projected pieces 196 are projected in the radial direction of a rotary shaft 162 to be lower than the height of a forward spiral blade 164 on a spiral auger 92 and arranged at the pitch of 90° around the rotary shaft 162 and at prescribed intervals between two pitches of the forward spiral blade 164. Thus, the projected pieces 196 are arranged to be deviated in the shaft direction of the rotary shaft 162 at the prescribed pitches around the rotary shaft 162, whereby the stirring ability of the spiral auger 92 is more increased than in the case a plurality of projected pieces 196 are provided at the same position in the shaft direction of the rotary shaft 162 without lowering the transporting ability of the spiral auger 92. By providing the projected pieces 196 at the prescribed pitches around the rotary shaft 162, the edge parts of the projected pieces 196 are surely made to get under the developer even when the level of the developer is less than the height of the shaft center line of the rotary shaft 162 of the spiral auger 92.
