The device has apertures (12) on a cross-support (2) for inserting bridge roadway planks (3), whereby the apertures secure the planks in the plane of the roadway and below. The surface of the apertures consists of an elastomer material. Metal staybolts (6) are fixed to the cross-bearer and there is at least one roadway retaining device (4) with a locking rail (43) in which the staybolts engage.
