PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control unit capable of automatically switching a mode so as to be a mode identical to a mode of a composite apparatus. SOLUTION: Assuming that a mode of the composite apparatus 1 is set to a VCR1B side and a mode of the remote control unit 7 is set to a DVD recorder 1A side, then the composite apparatus 1 transmits a VCR mode signal. Thus, the remote control unit 7 receives the VCR mode signal, and when the remote control mode set at present to the remote control unit 7 is the DVD mode, a microcomputer 11 switches the remote control mode to the VCR mode. In this case, the microcomputer 11 drives a buzzer circuit 12 to buzz a buzzer tone for several seconds. Consequently, the remote control unit 7 can know that the mode of the remote control unit 7 is switched from the DVD mode into the VCR mode, and the remote control unit 7 can operate the VCR1B of the composite apparatus 1.
