PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that some of conventional cosmetics or quasi drugs which contain a product obtained by esterification reaction of an unreacted carboxyl group of an oligoester of a hydroxy fatty acid with an aliphatic alcohol as an oily base do not agree with skin and therefore are inferior in a sense of use. SOLUTION: A cosmetic or a quasi drug uses an esterification product of the oligoester of the hydroxy fatty acid with a phytosterol having a chemical structure similar to that of a cholesterol as the oily base, wherein 12-hydroxysteraric acid is selected as the hydroxy fatty acid from viewpoints of irritativeness to the skin, safety, and availability as a raw material source, so that the cosmetic or the quasi drug easily agreeable with the skin and excellent in the sense of use and moisture retaining properties is produced.
