PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium for an air filter which extends the life of the air filter because of low pressure loss and has high collection efficiency, and the air filter. SOLUTION: The filter medium for the air filter is composed of 90-30 wt.% of extremely fine fibers with a fiber diameter of 5μm or below consisting of polyolefin or polyester and 10-70 wt.% of binder fibers with a fiber diameter of 12-30μm comprising polyolefin or polyester and has a bulk density of 0.05-0.3 g/cm3.
