PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an optical system small in size while extending a color reproducing range and realizing higher luminance. SOLUTION: The light source device is equipped with a cross dichroic prism 203 composing light R, light G<SB>1</SB>, light G<SB>2</SB>and light B, an LED 201R generating the light R, an LED 201G<SB>1</SB>generating the light G<SB>1</SB>, an LED 201G<SB>2</SB>generating the light G<SB>2</SB>, and an LED 201B arranged side by side with the LED 201G<SB>2</SB>and generating the light B, and a control part for driving and controlling the LED 201R, the LED 201G<SB>1</SB>, the LED 201G<SB>2</SB>and the LED 201B. The peak wavelength of the light G<SB>2</SB>is adjacent to that of the light B, and the control part switches the LED 201G<SB>2</SB>and the LED 201B in a time-division manner and controls and drives them.
