A retailing system for a pharmacy has customer access to vending shelves with open sections (13) for non controlled products and closed shelves (14), sealed by glass doors, for customers to select by viewing. The sealed shelves are complemented by information points (15) which assist the customer with the selection. The information is either via leaflets, or by a coded label scanned by a reader carried by the customer. The sheets and/or reader are offered at the check out (17) where the operator can release the products, e.g. via a responsible person.
