PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary expanding device for capable of facilitating insertion work for covering a protective tube on an electric wire by assisting work for inserting the electric wire from the edge of the protective tube attached therein.

SOLUTION: This auxiliary expanding device 40 is used at the time of working for expanding a space between divided portions of the sleeve-shaped protective tube, and inserting the electric wire in the protective tube attached therein. This device has an inserting section 41 which is formed so as to have a rear edge 41c wider than an opening formed by gradually expanding the top edge 41a which is narrower than an opening of the edge of the protective tube. The inserting section 41 is inserted in the opening of the edge of the protective tube, thus expanding the space between the divided portions so that they may be separated from each other.
