A gas filter has a rectangular frame around a fan-fold filter panel (12). Two sides (14, 16) of the frame are formed by strip elements (18, 20). The third side (14) of the fan-fold panel (12) is closed by a self-supporting stiff panel (22) which acts as the fitting base for a cover seal. The cover seal is located by e.g. two tongue and groove joints or a dovetail joint. The fan-fold filter edges are bonded to the surrounding frame.
