Hollow fibre module

A high-temperature hollow fibre membrane fluid filtration module (10) has a housing (11) enclosing a ceramic cartridge (19) with a bundle of hollow gas-sealed ceramic fibres (18). The fibres are anchored in the cartridge by a ceramic plug (24). The ceramic fibres are sealed by an external glass sheath also embedded in and also covering the plug. The ceramic tubes are separated from each other by a pre-defined gap. The union between the hollow fibres and cartridge is gas-tight. Also claimed is a process to make the membrane module in which a cartridge case is part-filled with a suspension of ceramic particles and water to surround the fibre ends. The liquid is then decanted from the suspension forming pores between the fibres and leaving a ceramic plug, followed by application of glass powder and heating to the glass melting point.
