The device (1) is designed similar to a pair of scissors with two sets of crosswise arranged arms (21a, 21b, 24) joined with a transversal bolt serving as the rotation axle (2). The front ends (22a, 22b) are provided with serrated outer surfaces (26). One of the arms (24) is permanently attached to the lower end of a spindle, the other can be vertically moved. The device (1) is connected to a chain saw and pushed into the wedge-shaped gap cut into the trunk in order to widen it until the tree falls over.
