Use of DNA markers to establish breeding values of individual animals and computer software therefor

A method of determining breeding values of individual animals by (i) identifying possible parents of progeny, and (ii) genotyping of possible parents and progeny, and (iii) calculating parentage likelihoods and converting them to statistical probabilities, and (iv) using these probabilities when estimating the breeding values of the individual animals. The method characterised by the step of using a selected number of genetic markers in the genotyping, where the genetic markers do not identify a single set of parents for the progeny.
