PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern extracting apparatus capable of accurately extracting a pattern used as an extraction object even when the boundary of the pattern used as an extraction object is unclear. SOLUTION: A circumscribed rectangle having a size and a position in predetermined ranges out of circumscribed rectangles created from an input image is extracted; a searching region is set in a certain range from the extracted circumscribed rectangle; and a specific pattern is extracted from the input image based on the circumscribed rectangle associated with the searching region.
