PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive silent chain capable of preventing occurrence of abnormal wear and elongation of the whole chain and bringing a link plate and a connection pin into slide contact mutually and turning them smoothly for a long time to transmit power. SOLUTION: This silent chain is composed of a guide link plate 120, the connection pin 130 fitted and fixed in a pin hole of the guide link plate 120, and an inner link plate 110 having a meshing tooth constituted by fitting the connection pin 130 into the pin hole in play. In this connection pin 130, a hardened layer 132 made of vanadium carbide is formed on a surface of a basic material 131 and Si<SB>3</SB>N<SB>4</SB>particles 133 are dispersed in the hardened layer 132.
