RAMP COVER MECHANISM FOR A WHELLCHAIR RAMP

A ramp cover mechanism for a wheelchair ramp system (100) is provided. The wheelchair ramp system (100) may include a flip-over ramp (32), which may have one or more ramp sections (34, 36), that is hingedly connected to a mounting enclosure (10) located in the vehicle threshold. A link (26) is attached to the ramp (32) and operates to deploy and stow the ramp (32) in response to a drive system (200) such as a hydraulic linear or rotary actuator. The link (26) rests below the vehicle floor when the ramp is stowed generally flat on top of the vehicle threshold, and when the ramp (32) is deployed, a cover plate (30) adjacent the link (26) is moved to conceal a gap (28) left by the link (26) when extended to deploy the ramp (32). In one embodiment, the cover plate (30) is normally biased toward a horizontal orientation and the ramp cover mechanism includes a rotating cam (21) that cooperates with an articulated lever (25) assembly to raise and lower the cover plate (30).
