PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission system, media conversion unit, and transmission method in which communication between terminals is enabled even if an abnormality occurs in a center device or a relay device and a link with a terminal is lost. SOLUTION: A transmission system comprises: an Internet connection unit 11 connected with the Internet so that a plurality of communication units can communicate with one another via the Internet; a media conversion unit 21 which is connected with the Internet connection unit 11 by a first transmission medium, including a function for converting a signal from the first transmission medium into a signal to a second transmission medium, converting a signal from the second transmission medium into a signal to the first transmission medium and linking with the communication unit; and a signal distribution unit 22 which is connected with the media conversion unit 21 and the plurality of communication units by the second transmission medium, for distributing a signal from the media conversion unit 21 for transmission to the communication unit and transmitting signals from the communication units to the media conversion unit 21.
