PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve system capable of making greater adjustment of valve closing timing than valve opening timing while ensuring a sufficient amount of adjustment with relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: A rocker arm mechanism 19 for opening/closing a valve 5 has a first arm 25 swingingly supported to a rocker shaft 11; a second arm 35 driven by a cam 15 to swing around the rocker shaft side used as a fulcrum; a third arm 45 swingingly provided at a supporting shaft 13 disposed near a rocker shaft, and adjusting the phase of the cam by an attitude change caused by the fulcrum movement of the second arm, to drive the first arm; and a variable mechanism 44 for displacing the fulcrum of the second arm. The second arm has a driving surface 40, and the third arm has a shaft member 52 turnably supported in a swing direction and formed with a driven surface 53a at the outer peripheral part so as to come in face contact with the driving surface.
