PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant resin composition which excels in toolability, machine physical properties, flame retardancy, non-drip nature, and the like, and is suitable as a wire-coating material or a building material. SOLUTION: The flame retardant resin composition is prepared by compounding 20-300 pts.wt. metal hydrate to 100 pts.wt. resin component which comprises an ethylene copolymer having a melt flow rate of 0.01-25 g/10 minutes as a principal component and an ethylene-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer magnesium ionomer having 5-60 mol% neutralization degree and a melt flow rate of 1-500 g/10 minutes as an accessory ingredient.
