<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for handling mail which contribute to improvement in management of the mail on a user side and thus theft prevention of the mail at a stage in which the mail is deposited in the post office side. <P>SOLUTION: A postage settlement system 20 is provided with a mail handling agency 21 of which the communication connection is performed with each of a user terminal 28 and a financial institute terminal 37, the mail handling agency 21 is equipped with a post office terminal 26 and a postage settlement agency terminal 27, and the post office terminal 26 is equipped with a user data memory 32 which compares and collates a post office registration number received from the settlement agency terminal 27 with a post office registration number attached to mail accepted from the user side and stores user side data. The settlement agency terminal 27 receives number issuance request data x2 from the side of the user terminal 28 and transmits registration number data x1 of the post office registration number to the side of the post office terminal 26 and the side of the user terminal 28 when both post office registration numbers coincide with each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
