PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel suitable for active matrix driving by a TFT element and the like while an electric field applying process and a UV irradiating process to be cost increase factors are made unnecessary, and further to provide a liquid crystal display realizing full color animation display of high quality and high speed. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal panel wherein a liquid crystal having an isotropic liquid phase-a cholesteric phase-a smectic A phase-a chiral smectic C phase as a phase transition sequence is encapsulated between a pair of substrates, a first substrate is subjected to alignment treatment and at least a part of a second substrate is subjected to alignment treatment in a direction different from that of the alignment treatment to which the first substrate is subjected. When no voltage is applied, in the chiral smectic C phase, the liquid crystal has uniform monostable molecular alignment and the direction of the monostable molecular alignment is tilted from the direction of the alignment treatment to which the first substrate is subjected when viewed from the normal direction of the substrate.
