PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color identification apparatus capable of easily setting the range of colors to be detected without requiring labor or time or the occurrence of variations caused by workmen. SOLUTION: At initial teaching processing, a signal processing control part computes reference values based on a plurality of ratios of quantities of light received by a light receiving element corresponding to lights of a plurality of wavelengths and sets an acceptable range capable of detecting an object as a detection range on the basis of the computed reference values. At addition teaching processing and exclusion teaching processing, the signal processing control part computes a sum difference of color differences on the basis of the reference values and the plurality of ratios of quantities of light received computed at the initial teaching processing and enlarges or contracts the detection range capable of detecting the object on the basis of the computed sum difference of color differences.
