<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the number of used WDM devices in total. <P>SOLUTION: The two-way multiplex communication system comprises a first WDM device (WDM device at the station office side) 14b provided in a station office for multiplexing a plurality of optical signals different in wavelength, a second WDM device (WDM device at the subscriber side) 41 provided at a subscriber for demultiplexing a plurality of optical signals different in wavelength, a one-conductor optical transmission line 5 connected between the station office and the subscriber for transmitting the optical signals, and couplers 62a, 62b provided on the way of the optical transmission line for distributing the optical signals.
