<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance durability to the charge/discharge operation of a storage battery in an AC uninterruptible power supply. <P>SOLUTION: A load 20 and a bidirectional power converter 4 are connected with an AC input terminal 1 through an AC switch 2. An electrolytic capacitor 5 is connected with a DC side line 17 of the bidirectional power converter 4. The bidirectional power converter 4 is connected with a storage battery 6 through a DC switch 7. When the AC switch 2 is turned off due to the abnormality of power supply, the DC switch 7 is also turned off to prevent the discharge of the storage battery 6.
