PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material with variable viscoelasticity excellent in stability of dispersion, capable of carrying out large reversible increase and reduction of viscoelasticity, exhibiting Maxwll type viscoelastic behavior and stably controlling with excellent response, the viscoelasticity of the material with variable viscoelasticity by oxidation/reduction and to provide a method for controlling viscoelasticity of the variable viscoelasticity material. SOLUTION: A material with variable viscoelasticity comprising a solution obtained by adding an organic salt to a cationic surfactant, which changes its viscoelasticity between high state and low state by oxidation/reduction.
