The insert for locking inside a chain link (3) of a link chain consists of two parts (A,B) interconnected by a positive or non-positive connection, especially by a snap-in lock. The direction of the connection movement is perpendicular to the side faces (2,8) of the chain link. The outer side faces (1,7) of each insert part lies parallel to the chain link side faces. At least one of the insert halves has a bevelled face (6a,10a) upon which slides a bevelled face on the other half as the halves approach one another, whereby the sliding region bends out until the bevelled face is overcome, and a snap-in locking ensues.
