摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element and a display device that are small-sized, and have high resolution, very high use efficiency of light emitted from a light source, and a high contrast as compared with a conventional liquid crystal display etc. SOLUTION: In an optical function element having a waveguide whose cyclic structure is composed of linearly disordered line defects and a plurality of resonators whose cyclic structures are composed of spot defects disordered in spots and which are arranged in specified pattern nearby the waveguide in a cyclic structure forming a photonic band gap for a specified wavelength range, the plurality of resonators are characterized in that the plurality of resonators have a 1st state wherein resonance wavelengths are variable with an external signal and light in the waveguide is taken out and emitted to the outside of the optical function element by equalizing the wavelength of the light propagated in the optical waveguide to a resonance wavelength and a 2nd stage wherein the light in the waveguide is stopped from being emitted to the outside of the optical function element by making the wavelength of the light propagated in the waveguide different from the resonance wavelengths.
