PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove gas becoming an obstacle of recording operation and ink supply operation quickly and smoothly from the ink supply passage in an ink supply system having a structure closed for an ink jet recording head. SOLUTION: Fluid communication is established between an ink tank 10 and a liquid chamber 50 for introducing ink from the ink tank to a recording head 20 through two interconnection passages 53 and 54. Under a state where gas exists in the liquid chamber, ink is moved from the ink tank 10 through one interconnection passage 53 and, at the same time, gas is transferred to the ink tank 10 through the other interconnection passage 54. Furthermore, a buffer chamber 100 for relaxing build-up of pressure by increasing the internal volume of the liquid chamber is provided in order to prevent leakage of ink from the ejection opening due to expansion of gas (air) remaining in the liquid chamber 50 when ambient pressure lowers or ambient temperature rises.
