<p>The invention relates to a distraction device placed in the bone (23) of a jaw by lateral insertion, comprising a body (1) provided with a shank (2) and a fixed lateral portion (3) which is oriented on an inclined plane in relation to the axis of the shank (4), a mobile lateral portion (5) which is parallel to the fixed lateral portion (3) and which is mounted in a translatory manner by the action of a spiral-shaped slide rail (6), according to the direction of the axis of the shank (4) in order to modify the space between the lateral portions (3, 5). According to the invention, the device is such that the spiral-shaped slide rail (6) comprises a threaded rod (7) which is mounted on the mobile lateral portion (5) and on an outer support plate (9) which is coupled to the body (1) such that the mobile lateral portion (5) can be driven during rotation of the threaded rod (7).
