PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and stably manufacture a coil type filter element of high precision, in a method of manufacturing a filter element having a filtering capacity of sub-micron order realized by slits between coils formed by winding a wire in a coil. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the filter element having fine slits between the coils 10a and 10a formed by winding the wire 10 in a coil, the wire 10 with a metal plating of a thickness equal to half the width of a target width of the slit is manufactured and wound around a basket-shaped frame 12 having a large number of pressing rods 12a longitudinally provided to the out periphery thereof under constant tension in a close contact state to constitute a coil-shaped assembly. Chemical, electrical or electrochemical treatment is applied to the coil-shaped assembly wherein the wires 10 are wound around the basket-shaped frame in the close contact state to remove the plating layer 11 on the surface of the wire to form the slits 13 between the coils.
