PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder including a magnetization part for Z phase without loosing the weight balance of a magnetic drum, which is improved in the weight balance without providing a projection on the magnetic drum. SOLUTION: In this magnetic encoder 1 including the magnetic drum 6 magnetized for outputting a Z-phase signal only by one pulse as an origin signal by one rotation, the magnetization part 19 for Z phase is provided in one position on the plane of the magnetic drum 6. The Z-phase magnetization part provided on the magnetic drum is set to NSN or SNS, and the width of S-pole in the NSN or the width of an N-pole in the SNS is set to an optional width.
