PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide protective material and a protective garment adsorbing a slight amount of gaseous organic chemical substance permeated through a selectively permeable layer via a gas adsorptive layer, protecting a wearer from gas intruding through portions worn down or damaged after use, joined portions or fastener portions, and further having light weight, flexibility and excellent moisture permeability to suppress thermal stress caused on the wearer. SOLUTION: The protective material and the protective garment have the following structure: at least one layer of the selectively permeable layer having permeation inhibiting performance against the gaseous organic chemical substance and moisture permeability of (60g/m<SP>2</SP>×h) to (850g/m<SP>2</SP>×h), and a layer comprising gas adsorptive substance (a gas adsorptive layer); and at least one selectively permeable layer is arranged at the outside of the gas adsorptive layer in an inside view of the garment.
