PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation reaction apparatus which has an oxygen separation element constituted so that an oxide ion conductive membrane-shaped ceramic body is supported by a porous support and has excellent efficiency when a hydrocarbon is oxidized. SOLUTION: This oxidation reaction apparatus is provided with: the oxygen separation element 10 having the porous support 14 on one side of the oxide ion conductive ceramic body 12 formed into a dense membrane-like shape; a casing 3 for housing the element 10; an oxygen source supplying chamber 20 to which an oxygen source gas (such as air) is supplied; and an oxidation reaction chamber 30 to which the gas to be oxidized (such as CH<SB>4</SB>)is supplied. The membrane-shaped ceramic body 12 of the element 10 is arranged on the side of the oxygen source supplying chamber 20 and the porous support 14 is arranged on the side of the oxidation reaction chamber 30. A catalyst causing a carbonization reaction (such as a metal catalyst) is not placed at least in the position closer to the oxidation reaction chamber 30 than the membrane-shaped ceramic body 12 of the element 10.
