PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold which can be regenerated properly for the mold surface having a slight uneveness, and to provide a regenerating method thereof. SOLUTION: The regenerating method for the mold comprises the step of removing out a lower mold 21 from a lens-forming apparatus, the step of immersing the mold surface into such a treating liquid as a chromium-dissolved treating liquid to thereby dissolve rapidly a melting layer 32 by the passing of the treating liquid through a protective layer 33, namely to thereby cause the rapid delamination of the protective layer 33 and the melting layer 32 and cause the exposure of the underlayer-facing mold surface 31a of the foundation member 31, and next the step of forming a film consisting mainly of chromium on the underlayer-facing mold surface 31a by a sputtering method or the like to make a melting layer 32, the step of forming on the melting layer 32 a film of a noble metal film consisting of an alloy containing Au or the like by a sputtering method or the like to make a protective layer 33 and consequently to finish the regeneration of the lower mold 21.
