The use of beta -diketonate compounds (I) of the transition metals scandium, tetravalent cerium, praseodymium, europium, gadolinium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium or lutetium is claimed for catalyzing isocyanate-hydroxy (NCO-OH) group reactions. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of urethane compounds (A), by reacting organic polyisocyanate(s) (B) with hydroxy compound(s) (C) in presence of (I) as catalyst; and (2) the urethane compounds (A) obtained by the process.
