PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand functions without using dedicated equipment. SOLUTION: A function expansion system comprises M pieces (M is an integer not less than 1) of networked equipment. The M pieces of equipment have software. User equipment out of the M pieces of equipment further comprises a storage part for storing first data, and an equipment information database 20. The equipment information database 20 stores an equipment ID ("1" to "4") identifying each of the M pieces of equipment, and software information indicating the software in each of the M pieces of equipment. According to a user's direction, the user equipment refers to the equipment information database 20 to determine N pieces (N is an integer meeting 1≤N≤M) of candidate equipment having first software 10-1 capable of converting the first data to second data, out of the M pieces of equipment. The user equipment controls the N pieces of candidate equipment such that one of the N pieces of candidate equipment executes the first software 10-1 to convert the first data stored in the storage part of the user equipment to the second data.
