The plaque (1), e.g. for vehicle index number plates, is composed of a number of layers with a bottom adhesive layer (4) for attachment to a surface, covered by a peel-off layer (5) for protection. The carrier layer (2) has the vehicle index letters and numbers (9) on the side away from the adhesive layer in a relief layer (8). The protective layer also has a relief layer (6), on the side away from the carrier, with further index letters and characters (7). The index characters are not aligned with each other so that an index mark can be made in the adhesive layer.
